US tariffs could increase India's steel import vulnerability

The United States may impose higher tariffs on steel and aluminum imports, potentially shifting global trade. This could lead to Asian countries redirecting their steel exports to India. SAIL Chairman Amarendu Prakash said India could become more susceptible to increased steel imports due to the US tariffs. Previously, Asian countries exported steel to the US and Europe. Prakash emphasized the need for safeguard duties to protect the domestic steel industry. The Directorate General of Trade Remedies has recommended a provisional safeguard duty on certain steel products.
