U.S. private spacecraft nearing Moon landing attempt
Firefly Aerospace's Blue Ghost Mission 1 is set to attempt a lunar landing early Sunday, targeting a site near Mons Latreille. If successful, it will be the second private lander to achieve this milestone. Launched on January 15, Blue Ghost carries ten scientific instruments and is designed to operate for a lunar day. It aims to capture high-definition images of a total eclipse on March 14 and a lunar sunset on March 16. Following Blue Ghost, Intuitive Machines' IM-2 mission will launch on March 6, featuring a new lander called Athena. This mission aims to improve upon previous attempts and includes a unique hopping drone for lunar exploration.
