U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves to resign before Trump takes office after leading January 6 prosecutions
Matthew Graves, the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia, will resign on January 16, 2025, before President-elect Donald Trump takes office. Graves led the prosecution of over 1,500 individuals related to the January 6 Capitol riot. His departure comes after a Supreme Court ruling affected charges against more than 250 defendants, leading the DOJ to drop or reconsider several cases. Graves expressed gratitude for his role and the support he received during his tenure. All U.S. Attorneys are expected to resign before Trump's inauguration, a standard practice following a change in administration. Trump has indicated plans to pardon some January 6 defendants.
