US and Russia agree to restore embassy staffing and form team for Ukraine peace talks
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov met in Saudi Arabia to discuss improving relations and negotiating peace in Ukraine. This marks a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy under President Donald Trump. Both countries agreed to restore embassy staffing in Washington and Moscow. This aims to support Ukraine peace talks and enhance bilateral cooperation, following years of reduced diplomatic presence due to expulsions. No Ukrainian officials attended the meeting, and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that Ukraine would not accept any outcomes without its participation. European allies have also raised concerns about being excluded from the discussions.
