UP mandates regular power meter testing for accuracy

hindustantimes.com

Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL) has made regular testing of power meters mandatory. This new rule aims to improve billing accuracy and build consumer trust. The testing frequency will depend on the electricity load of connections. For connections between 5 MVA and 10 MVA, testing will occur every six months. For connections over 10 MVA, testing will take place every three months. High-tension connections will be tested annually, while meters for connections between 20 kVA and 100 kVA will also be checked once a year. Low-tension meters will require testing every two years, and single-phase meters every five years. A UPPCL official stated that this change is expected to enhance transparency in billing. It will address issues related to faulty readings and overcharging that have concerned consumers for a long time. Regular testing will help spot problems, reduce technical losses, and ensure meters work correctly, lowering the risk of billing disputes.
