United Airlines delays Airbus A350 delivery to 2030 as focus shifts to Boeing 787 fleet
United Airlines has a long-standing order for 45 Airbus A350-900 aircraft, originally placed in 2009. The delivery has been delayed multiple times, now scheduled for 2030. Previously, United opted for Boeing 777-300ERs instead of the A350 due to various operational challenges. In recent years, United has focused on expanding its Boeing 787 fleet, ordering 200 Dreamliners. CEO Scott Kirby has indicated that the airline may only take the A350s if it can secure a significant number, suggesting a preference for consolidating aircraft types to reduce costs. Despite the challenges, the A350 could still play a role in United's future fleet, particularly for long-haul routes. The airline's reliance on Boeing has raised concerns about supply chain risks, making the A350 an option for diversifying its widebody aircraft.
