Ukraine will make Russia pay reparations
Russia will be compelled to pay reparations to Ukraine for damages caused by its full-scale invasion, according to international law expert Denys Honchar. Honchar explains that the principle of state responsibility in international law will be applied, despite Russia's veto power in the UN Security Council. Mechanisms like international compensation funds and tribunals, similar to those used in past conflicts, are being considered to facilitate reparations. Ukraine is actively documenting damages and pursuing legal avenues, including claims in Ukrainian courts and before international bodies. The use of frozen Russian assets is also being discussed as a means of compensation, drawing on historical precedents.
