UK report: Plant-based meat doesn't harm health
A UK government report released today found no link between processed plant-based meat alternatives and adverse health outcomes. The report, a "rapid update" on processed foods, reviewed recent research and contrasted plant-based alternatives with ultra-processed foods like meat and sugary drinks, which are often linked to increased health risks. The study builds on previous findings. The government's Eatwell Guide recommends a diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains, with less red and processed meat. The Scientific Advisory Committee on Nutrition will review the topic again in 2026.
