UK issues travel warning for Turkey as counterfeit currency concerns rise
The UK government has issued a travel warning for Turkey, stating that $50 and $100 US dollar bills will not be accepted due to a rise in counterfeit currency. Tourists are advised to use smaller denominations or different currencies. The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) continues to advise against travel to southeastern Turkey due to the risk of terrorist attacks. Areas like Istanbul and Ankara have also experienced violence. Additionally, the FCDO warns about the legal consequences of defacing currency or the national flag in Turkey. Concerns about sexual assault and drink spiking have also been highlighted, particularly for vulnerable travelers.
