UK government allocates over £1.3 billion in emergency funding to struggling councils
The UK government will provide over £1.3 billion in emergency funding to 30 local authorities in England for the 2025/26 fiscal year. This support aims to help councils manage rising service costs and budget pressures. Seven London boroughs, including Croydon and Newham, will receive significant allocations. Croydon will get £136 million, while Newham will receive £51.2 million, alongside a 9% council tax increase for residents. Other councils, such as Birmingham and Bradford, will also benefit from this funding. The government acknowledges the financial challenges faced by councils and aims to support them in maintaining public services.
