UGC promotes recognition of prior learning to enhance employability in India
The University Grants Commission (UGC) is working to implement the National Education Policy (NEP) by promoting Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL). This initiative aims to validate skills and knowledge gained through various learning experiences, helping students transition into the job market. RPL is designed to address the skills gap in India, where many graduates lack employability. The UGC suggests integrating vocational education and internships into higher education to better prepare students for careers, moving away from traditional lecture-based methods. To successfully mainstream RPL, universities should collaborate with industries and develop centers of excellence for skill assessment. This approach aims to create a dynamic curriculum that meets workforce demands and enhances the employability of graduates.
