Tyrone Mings appointed Euro 2028 organizer while playing
Tyrone Mings, the 32-year-old England footballer, is set to take on a new role as part of the organizing team for Euro 2028. Despite this exciting opportunity, he will continue to play for Aston Villa in the Premier League. Mings is expected to join the board of directors for the tournament, which will be held across England, Ireland, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. This news comes after the UK secured the hosting rights for Euro 2028 in October 2023. FA Chair Debbie Hewitt has suggested that Mings is a strong candidate for the role of “independent non-executive director.” If he accepts, he will be the first prominent player to hold such a significant position in a major tournament's organization. In addition to his football career, Mings is already involved in business as a director at an interior design company. His experience will help tournament organizers understand the perspectives of international players. Mings has played 18 times for the England national team, but he may not be eligible to play in Euro 2028, as he will be nearly 35 by then. He has faced challenges recently, including a serious knee injury that sidelined him for a whole season but has made a comeback with 16 appearances this season. Mings contributed greatly to Aston Villa's success, helping the team reach the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
