Twelve Pennsylvania teams compete for PIAA girls basketball titles
Twelve girls basketball teams in Pennsylvania are set to compete for state championships this week at the Giant Center in Hershey. The teams represent various districts, with the WPIAL and District 12 each sending three teams, while District 6 has two teams in the finals. The girls' championship field is considered well-balanced compared to the boys' teams. Two new No. 1 teams emerged as favorites heading into the finals: South Fayette leads in 5A, and Neumann-Goretti is on top in 4A. Four other top-ranked teams advancing from the state semifinals are Perkiomen Valley in 6A, Loyalsock Township in 3A, Berlin-Brothersvalley in 2A, and Bishop Guilfoyle in Class A. The latest rankings feature top teams from each classification. In Class 6A, Perkiomen Valley takes the lead with a record of 27-3. South Fayette is at the top of Class 5A with an overall record of 28-2. Neumann-Goretti leads Class 4A, while Loyalsock Township holds the top spot in Class 3A. Berlin-Brothersvalley ranks first in Class 2A, and Bishop Guilfoyle tops Class A. These teams will compete for the chance to win state titles this weekend.
