Twelve arrested for chain snatching in Berhampur
Police in Berhampur have arrested 12 individuals linked to three inter-state chain-snatching gangs. Among those arrested are six women and a teenage boy. The suspects come from Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Andhra Pradesh. Authorities seized several items during the arrests. This included a car, two motorcycles, four gold chains weighing 130 grams, imitation chains, and a cutter. Police said the gangs primarily operated in crowded places near temples during festivals. The arrested individuals include a group of young men from Patrapada and another group from Ichapuram in Andhra Pradesh. The women involved range in age from 32 to 64 years old. The gang members were identified after a woman was caught with a snatched chain from Kamapalli temple. Recently, two members of the gang stole chains from a woman in Golanthara while she was sweeping her house. The police acted quickly, leading to their arrest and the recovery of the stolen chains. Police also reported that on March 22, the gang was involved in snatching a chain from a 67-year-old woman during her morning walk near a market.
