Trump's birthright citizenship order faces new legal challenge

President Donald Trump's new executive order restricting automatic citizenship faces a legal challenge, months after the Supreme Court rejected his earlier attempt to limit birthright citizenship for children of non-citizens. Lawyers who defeated the original curbs filed a motion Tuesday to block the order. The American Civil Liberties Union and other advocacy groups asked a New Hampshire federal judge to declare that one of two executive orders signed Aug 6 violates an existing injunction. That injunction currently bars the administration from denying citizenship to babies of mothers with temporary visas or undocumented immigrants. The lawyers argued that any executive action creating exceptions to the Citizenship Clause is illegal, stating, "If the president issues 100 orders seeking to create new exceptions to the sacred guarantee, all 100 will be equally illegal." The court previously approved the case as a class action.
