Trump believes Russia seeks to end Ukraine war following US-Russia talks
President Donald Trump stated that he believes Russia wants to end the war in Ukraine, following recent talks between U.S. and Russian officials. He described the conflict as "senseless" and highlighted the heavy toll on soldiers from various nations. During discussions in Saudi Arabia, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov agreed on principles to negotiate an end to the conflict. They emphasized the need for a high-level team to facilitate talks acceptable to all parties involved. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, however, rejected any agreements made without Ukraine's participation. The talks also included discussions on normalizing U.S.-Russia relations and resuming communication on other international issues.
