Trump appoints ICE veteran Caleb Vitello as acting director to lead deportation efforts
Caleb Vitello has been appointed as the acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) by President-elect Donald Trump. Vitello, a veteran of the agency with over 20 years of experience, is expected to quickly implement Trump's mass deportation policies. Unlike many of Trump's other Cabinet picks, Vitello has extensive knowledge of ICE operations, particularly in the Enforcement and Removal Operations division. His appointment allows him to begin deportation efforts immediately, without waiting for Senate confirmation. Vitello has previously overseen the implementation of body-worn camera policies for ICE agents and has served as a use-of-force instructor. His experience is seen as crucial as ICE prepares to manage the removal of over 400,000 immigrants with criminal convictions.
