Tripura reports 74 cybercrime arrests in three years
The Tripura government has reported 74 arrests related to cybercrime over the past three years. This information was shared in a recent assembly meeting by the state's Home Department. A total of 123 cybercrime cases were documented during this period. From 2023 to this January, police stations recorded 9,308 cybercrime complaints. Out of these, investigations were completed for 8,485 cases. The police have set up a dedicated cybercrime unit within the state crime branch and district-level cybercrime cells to address these issues. In addition to law enforcement efforts, the government is conducting awareness campaigns to inform citizens about cybercrimes, including outreach through social media. Some officers have received specialized training to better handle these cases. A new cybercrime police station is set to open soon, which will help address digital crime complaints more efficiently. The cybercrime unit also works with the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal to assist in unfreezing bank accounts and recovering lost funds related to cyber fraud.
