Toronto drivers can claim reimbursement for pothole damage
Toronto is taking action against potholes that damage vehicles. The city is currently in the middle of a 24-hour repair blitz. Since the beginning of the year, workers have fixed more than 68,000 potholes, showing a significant increase in repairs compared to last week. Drivers who experience vehicle damage due to potholes may be able to file a reimbursement claim. However, they must do so within 10 days of the damage. The city must not have met certain maintenance standards for highways for the claim to be valid. Claims can be submitted through the city's Claim Submission Web Form. Once a claim is submitted, city insurance adjusters will investigate. For faster vehicle repairs, drivers can also work with their automobile insurance companies. The entire claims process usually takes up to 90 days to complete. Pothole damage can vary from minor issues to serious problems, costing between $500 and $2,000. Vehicle owners may experience flat tires, issues with suspension, or misaligned steering due to potholes. To avoid damages, drivers are advised to slow down when approaching potholes. Quick swerving to dodge them can create dangerous situations for others on the road. Some drivers are even choosing to avoid known pothole-filled streets altogether. Residents can help by reporting potholes to 311 or through the city’s website. The city's “Worst Roads” campaign highlights the most problematic areas, which are often affected by weather and traffic volume.
