"Topakk" explores trauma and heroism in action film at Metro Manila Film Festival
The film "Topakk," part of the Metro Manila Film Festival 2024, presents a unique take on the action genre by exploring the trauma of its hero, Miguel Vergara, played by Arjo Atayde. Unlike typical action films, it focuses on his struggles with post-traumatic stress disorder after serving as a special forces operative. Miguel's journey to healing is intertwined with his efforts to help siblings Weng and Bogs Diwata, who are targeted by a corrupt police squad. The film culminates in a violent confrontation with the main villain, Romero, but leaves Miguel's emotional recovery uncertain. "Topakk" aims to raise awareness about PTSD while showcasing a more complex portrayal of heroism. It contrasts traditional action elements with deeper emotional themes, providing a fresh perspective on the genre. The film will be in theaters until January 14 and will also screen at the Manila International Film Festival from January 30 to February 2.
