Thornton youth pastor charged with felony sexual assault
A youth pastor in Thornton, Joshua Lucero, has been charged with felony sexual assault on a child. The 28-year-old was arrested on Tuesday and is accused of abusing at least one child while he worked at Word Alive Church. The incidents are reported to have occurred between July 2017 and July 2020. At that time, Lucero served as a youth pastor and was responsible for teenagers aged 13 to 18. The police have indicated that there may be more victims and are urging anyone with information to contact them. Thornton's Interim Police Chief, Greg Reeves, emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable members of the community. He has encouraged individuals with details about the case to step forward. Word Alive Church has not commented on the situation. According to social media, Lucero was still active in youth ministry as recently as March 13.
