Thirteen security officers killed by Assad loyalists' attack
Thirteen Syrian security officers were killed in clashes with loyalists of the ousted Assad regime in Latakia province. This marks the deadliest attack against the new government since Assad was toppled in December. The fighting began when armed men attacked checkpoints in the coastal town of Jableh. Residents reported heavy clashes, including the sounds of helicopters and artillery. The new government, led by President Ahmed al-Sharaa, has been conducting operations to capture Assad-affiliated officers. Many former regime militias remain active, complicating efforts to dismantle the previous military structure.
