Therapy scene added to deepen Joel's character in season 2
Craig Mazin, the showrunner of The Last of Us, has shared insights on a therapy scene included in season 2 that was initially cut. He believes this scene captures the show's true heart and explores the importance of mental health in a post-apocalyptic world. Mazin explained that even in a collapsed society, therapists can be vital. He noted that characters, especially tough ones like Joel, face immense emotional burdens. This therapy session will allow Joel, played by Pedro Pascal, to discuss his feelings, including his complex choices regarding Ellie. The scene had been planned for season 1 but was ultimately removed. Pascal loved it, and its inclusion in season 2 highlights Joel's struggles. It reflects deep themes about truth, emotional honesty, and relationships, which Mazin feels are crucial for the story. Season 2 will premiere on April 13 on Max.
