Tensions rise during Manibela protest in San Juan
Tensions increased during a protest rally in San Juan City, Philippines, between the transport group Manibela and the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA). The incident involved Gabriel Go, head of the MMDA's Special Operations Group, who was confronted by Manibela members. Go was at the site to ask Manibela drivers to move their vehicles, which he claimed were causing traffic jams along Connecticut Street. He described the interaction as aggressive and said communication broke down. Go noted that they were simply trying to manage the traffic situation. During the protest, one participant threw a water bottle at Go. He mentioned he would have to consider legal actions after the confrontation. The protest marked the last day of a transport strike initiated by Manibela and other groups due to concerns over alleged data falsification related to the Public Transport Modernization Program. Despite the initial conclusion of the strike, Manibela announced plans to extend it until Friday. To maintain safety during the disruptions, the Philippine National Police deployed over 48,000 personnel and provided free rides to commuters affected by the strike.
