Tens of thousands of Palestinians evacuate West Bank refugee camps amid Israeli military operation

Tens of thousands of Palestinians have fled refugee camps in the West Bank due to an ongoing Israeli military operation that began on January 21. The operation has led to widespread destruction of homes and infrastructure, particularly in Jenin, Tulkarm, and Nur Shams camps. Approximately 17,000 people have left the Jenin camp, leaving it nearly deserted. In Nur Shams, around 6,000 residents have evacuated, while Tulkarm has seen about 10,000 departures. Many remaining residents feel trapped as the military continues its demolition efforts. The Israeli military claims it is targeting militant groups and denies forcing residents to leave. The operation coincides with Israel's move to restrict the U.N. Palestinian relief organization, UNRWA, from its East Jerusalem headquarters, impacting aid efforts in the region.
