Telangana CM absent from iftar event due to restrictions

thehindu.com

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy did not attend the ‘Dawat-E-Iftar’ event at LB Stadium on Tuesday. This decision followed a ruling from the Election Commission of India (ECI) that barred politicians from attending state-sponsored gatherings. The restriction is in place because the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) is active in Hyderabad. This is due to the upcoming biennial election for the Telangana Legislative Council representing the Hyderabad Local Authorities Constituency. According to a circular from Tanuj Kumar, Under Secretary of the ECI, the proposal for iftar or dinner events throughout the state was not approved. The circular stated that the ECI did not give permission for such events in connection with Ramadan 2025. Despite the absence of political leaders, the iftar celebrations at LB Stadium took place as scheduled, but without an address from the Chief Minister.
