Teens spend over 25% of school day on smartphones, study shows
A new study by Seattle Children's Hospital reveals that high school students spend over 25% of their school day on smartphones, averaging 1.5 hours during a typical six-and-a-half hour day. This has prompted lawmakers to introduce legislation to limit phone use in schools. Colorado recently proposed House Bill 1135, which would require school districts to adopt policies restricting cellphone usage. If passed, Colorado would join 19 other states with similar restrictions. The study highlights that messaging, Instagram, video streaming, audio apps, and email are the most used apps among students. Schools are exploring ways to reduce phone use to improve focus and learning outcomes.
