Taoiseach says Cork castle reopening will boost tourism
The Taoiseach celebrated the reopening of Barryscourt Castle in Cork, predicting a boost to cultural tourism after its refurbishment. Admission will be free for the 2025 season. The castle, a historic tower house, underwent extensive conservation work by the Office of Public Works, including facade restoration. The Taoiseach highlighted its importance to Cork's heritage and the enhanced visitor experience. Barryscourt Castle, built in the 14th century, has a history marked by attacks and was closed in 2016 due to structural issues. The conservation cost approximately €1.27 million.
