Tamil Nadu minister clarifies no ties between Tangedco and Adani Group

Tamil Nadu Electricity Minister V. Senthilbalaji stated on November 21, 2024, that there is no commercial link between the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) and the Adani Group. This clarification follows reports of fraud and bribery charges against Gautam Adani in the U.S. Senthilbalaji emphasized that Tangedco has not engaged with Adani Group companies in the past three years. He noted that the state has signed agreements with Central government-owned firms, including the Solar Energy Corporation of India, to meet its energy needs. Tangedco is in the process of purchasing 500 megawatts of solar power through SECI to fulfill its Renewable Purchase Obligation. This purchase is part of a broader strategy to comply with government emissions reduction commitments.
