Takli Dam will support Rabi crops this year
The Takli Dam is nearly finished, according to Water Resources Minister Suresh Rawat. He informed the Assembly that 90% of the pipeline distribution system for irrigation is complete. This project will provide water for the upcoming Rabi crop season. The government has chosen a modern pressure-based pipeline network for irrigation instead of traditional canal systems. Rawat mentioned that the work orders for this project were issued on July 12, 2018. The irrigation area has expanded from the original plan of 4,432 hectares to 7,800 hectares. Now, farmers in 33 villages will benefit from this project, up from the initial 31 villages. Rawat also addressed questions about land acquisition and rehabilitation for families displaced by the dam. He explained that displaced families received 30x60 ft plots instead of built houses. A total of 1,376 people from seven villages have been resettled. This project received initial approval back in 2006, with revisions made in 2011 and 2016. Construction officially began in 2007. Initially expected to take three years, the project faced delays due to resettlement issues, pushing the completion date to November 2023. The dam was finally completed on June 5, 2023.
