Taiwan agrees to buy 30% of Alaska LNG output, Trump says
President Donald Trump announced Tuesday that Taiwan has agreed to purchase 30% of the gas from a proposed Alaska liquefied natural gas project, calling the deal a guarantee of the project's success. Trump made the remarks at a rally in Alaska, stating Taiwan would buy the gas for the next 20 years, and also claimed $4.4 billion in new investment on top of $50 billion previously committed by South Korea, though Seoul has not confirmed its finalized participation. The terms of the Taiwan agreement remain unclear, though state-owned CPC Corp reportedly reached a preliminary LNG deal with Alaska Gasline Development Corp last year, as Taiwan's energy demand grows with AI-related industries and it relies on imports for over 90% of its supply.
