Syrian military operation against Assad loyalists concludes
A Syrian military operation against loyalists of former president Bashar al-Assad has concluded, according to the defense ministry. The operation resulted in over 1,000 deaths, mostly civilians, amid escalating violence in the coastal region. Defense ministry spokesperson Hassan Abdul Ghany stated that public services can now resume and security is being restored. Plans are in place to continue addressing threats from remnants of the former regime. Syria's interim leader Ahmed al-Sharaa announced the formation of an independent committee to investigate the recent clashes and killings. He emphasized accountability for those who violated the new authorities' rules.
