Syria forms committee to investigate recent civilian deaths
Syria's interim President Ahmed Al-Sharaa has established a committee to investigate recent violence that resulted in over 1,300 deaths, including 830 civilians. This violence is the worst since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad in December. The violence began when armed groups, linked to the ousted regime, attacked security sites along the Mediterranean coast. The committee will identify those responsible for the civilian deaths and the attacks on state institutions. International condemnation has followed the violence, with calls for accountability from the U.S. and U.K. The new Syrian regime is facing challenges in gaining international recognition and lifting sanctions amid ongoing unrest.
