Syria ends military operation after mass civilian killings

Syria's new authorities declared an end to a military operation against loyalists of former president Bashar al-Assad on March 10. This follows nearly 1,000 civilian deaths, primarily among the Alawite minority, in the worst violence since Assad's overthrow. The operation targeted security threats in Latakia and Tartus provinces.
