Survivor of 1978 attack becomes advocate for violence victims after brutal assault
Mary Vincent, now 62, survived a brutal attack by Lawrence Singleton in 1978 when she was just 15. After being raped and having both arms cut off, she managed to escape and crawl to safety, ultimately leading to Singleton's arrest. Singleton was convicted but received a lenient 14-year sentence. Following his release for good behavior, he murdered another woman in 1997. Mary testified against him again, resulting in a death sentence, but he died of cancer in 2001. Mary has since become an advocate for survivors of violence and founded the Mary Vincent Foundation to support trauma victims. She continues to share her story and help others cope with their experiences.
