Supreme Court ruling allows couple to keep Molly the magpie after license dispute
Molly the magpie will remain with the Gold Coast couple who raised her, despite the Department of Environment's earlier decision to revoke their care license. The department acknowledged an error in its handling of the case. The couple, Reece Mortensen and Juliette Wells, had faced pressure to surrender Molly, but they maintained that she was not unlawfully kept. A recent medical assessment indicated Molly has some health issues but can fly short distances. While some wildlife advocates suggested placing Molly with other magpies, the couple has been allowed to keep her for now. The department is reviewing future care arrangements for the bird.
