A supermarket brand olive oil has surprisingly topped a recent Stiftung Warentest quality assessment, outperforming more expensive competitors. The test results highlight the value of this widely available product. The Rewe Beste Wahl Italian Extra Virgin Olive Oil received a "good" rating of 2.1, costing around 16 euros per liter, while other oils tested cost up to 50 euros. The oil is made from the Coratina olive variety. Stiftung Warentest evaluated 25 olive oils on sensory qualities, chemical composition, contaminants, packaging usability, and labeling. Aldi's Cantinelle and Gut Bio brands also performed well.
