Study reveals at-home urine test for prostate cancer screening is highly accurate
Researchers at Vanderbilt and the University of Michigan have developed a highly accurate at-home urine test for prostate cancer screening. This new test, published in The Journal of Urology, eliminates the need for a digital rectal exam. The MyProstateScore 2.0 test analyzes 18 genes linked to prostate cancer. It can help identify significant cancers, allowing patients with negative results to avoid unnecessary MRIs or biopsies. The study shows that the test maintains accuracy without the rectal exam, potentially reducing unnecessary biopsies by 34%-53%. Future research will explore its use in monitoring low-grade prostate cancer.
