Starmer considers sending peacekeeping troops to Ukraine but faces military readiness concerns

However, former army chief Lord Richard Dannatt warned that the UK lacks the necessary forces and equipment for a large deployment. Starmer emphasized the importance of Ukraine's involvement in negotiations and the need for Europe to enhance its defense spending. He reiterated the UK's commitment to increase defense spending to 2.5% of GDP, despite calls for higher levels. European leaders are meeting in Paris to discuss strategies in response to US President Donald Trump's push for a deal with Russia. The UK currently spends about 2.3% of its GDP on defense.
