Starmer boosts UK-US relations during White House visit
Keir Starmer visited the White House this week to meet with President Donald Trump. He brought a letter from King Charles inviting Trump for a state visit, making Trump the only U.S. President to have two state visits to the UK. During their meeting, Starmer and Trump discussed trade deals and security. Starmer emphasized the importance of the UK-US alliance and announced plans to increase UK defense spending to 2.5% of GDP by 2027. Trump noted that he was surprised by his positive rapport with Starmer, describing him as different from former Prime Minister Boris Johnson. The two leaders did not address Trump's controversial comments about Canada becoming a U.S. state.
