Sr. Margaret Bastin wins Musicologist Award 2024 for contributions to Tamil music

Sr. Margaret Bastin has been awarded the Musicologist Award 2024 by The Music Academy. She is recognized for her expertise in Tamil music and is a noted vocalist and veena player. Bastin holds multiple degrees, including a Doctorate in South Indian classical music, making her the first nun in South India to achieve this. She has served as Principal at two colleges and is currently the secretary of St. Joseph’s Arts and Science College. In addition to her administrative roles, she is Pro-Chancellor of World Tamil University in Virginia. Bastin has guided 13 research scholars and presented over 80 lectures internationally, while also authoring several books on music.
