Springfield man held without bail for bank threats

A 65-year-old man from Springfield is being held without bail after allegedly threatening to shoot people at a local bank. The incident occurred on March 18 at TD Bank in downtown Springfield around 1:15 PM. According to the Springfield Police Department, Michael Lane caused a disturbance and threatened bank customers. Employees activated a panic alarm, prompting police to respond. When officers arrived, Lane reportedly began attacking them and punched one officer in the face. Video footage shows multiple officers approaching Lane as he resisted arrest and threw punches. During the confrontation, Lane fell to the ground, and police used a taser to subdue him. On March 19, a judge ordered Lane to undergo a mental health evaluation to assess his competency to stand trial. He was taken to Bridgewater State Hospital, and a court hearing is scheduled for April 8. Lane has a history of offenses, including two arrest warrants for breaking and entering and other charges.
