South Korean man sentenced for sexual crimes; evidence revealed
A South Korean man has been sentenced to seven years in prison for multiple sex crimes, including rape and unlawful confinement. The man, 24 years old, denied the accusations made by his ex-girlfriend. However, unusual evidence led him to confess. The critical piece of evidence was security camera footage. It captured a reflection of one of the attacks in a washing machine door. Forensic analysis of the footage confirmed the victim's claims. Initially, the footage seemed unhelpful, but investigators discovered the assault was visible in the washing machine's reflection. The victim reported that the man raped her six times between March and April last year. These incidents began after she tried to end their relationship. At the time, he was already facing trial for raping another ex-partner in 2022. After seeing the enhanced video, which showed his actions, the man confessed. Despite initially denying the charges, he was found guilty on all counts. The court also imposed a seven-year employment ban on him at institutions involving minors and required him to wear an electronic anklet after his release. Judge Lee Eun Hye stated that the man's actions were dreadful, highlighting his attempts to excuse his behavior. The sentence was slightly reduced by an appellate court due to a settlement the man reached with one victim and his confession during the trial.
