Sons paid Rs 28,000 each to support elderly parents

In Sirmaur, an elderly couple named Srinivas Dwivedi and his wife faced abandonment by their sons. They struggled for two years without financial support. In October 2023, they sought help from Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) RK Sinha after previous orders were ignored by their sons. The SDM took action when the couple's situation came to light. He summoned the sons, Vinod and Vijay, and warned them of possible imprisonment if they did not provide maintenance. The sight of their distressed parents prompted the sons to act swiftly. Following the SDM’s intervention, the sons paid Rs 28,000 each for their parents' support and promised more by the end of the month. The elderly father expressed his deep gratitude, and the SDM honored them with new clothes, highlighting the need for compassion towards abandoned seniors in society.
