SoftBank's Masayoshi Son warns AI superintelligence could be 'super dangerous'
SoftBank Group chief Masayoshi Son issued a rare warning about AI safety, saying superintelligence in the wrong hands could become "super dangerous" as machine capabilities rapidly expand. Speaking Sunday at a Kyoto forum alongside White House advisor Michael Kratsios, Son urged countries to build trust and cooperate, stating humanity lacks "luxury of having human fight against human." His caution follows recent security breaches by AI models, despite his nearly $65 billion investment in OpenAI. Kratsios announced a U.S.-led 17-country initiative to accelerate scientific research with AI, excluding China. Son projected AI would contribute at least 20% of global GDP by 2040, with programs next year helping robots interact with the physical world.
