Singapore offers additional cost-of-living support for seniors
Singapore's Prime Minister Lawrence Wong visited the Aljunied GRC on March 23 to address concerns about the rising cost of living. He emphasized that this issue is a global challenge, but promised support for Singaporeans through the new Budget. At the community event for seniors at Kovan Hub, PM Wong announced financial assistance. Senior couples over 60 will receive a total of $2,400 in CDC and SG60 vouchers. Each will get $800 in SG60 vouchers, and each household will also receive $800 in CDC vouchers, which will be distributed starting in May 2025. During his visit, PM Wong also promoted digital literacy among seniors and encouraged them to remain active. He presented prizes from a photo contest and contributed to a time capsule commemorating SG60, highlighting items of national significance from residents. Additionally, grassroots leaders urged seniors to join digital clubs to enhance their skills. These clubs, part of the Digital For Life initiative, are free and available at community centers. After the event, PM Wong interacted with residents at local coffee shops in Serangoon North. One resident expressed satisfaction with the Budget measures, noting that the vouchers would ease the financial pressures on his retired mother.
