Shapovalov eliminated by Fritz at Miami Open

Denis Shapovalov lost in the third round of the Miami Open on Monday. He faced Taylor Fritz, the third seed from the United States, and lost with scores of 7-5, 6-3. Fritz took control of the match early in the second set by breaking Shapovalov's serve. He then maintained his advantage and finished the match with a strong serve, winning with nine aces overall. The match lasted one hour and 26 minutes. Shapovalov struggled with his serve, committing six double faults. This included two critical mistakes during the first set that allowed Fritz to take the lead. Although Shapovalov recovered from an early break to equalize at 5-5, he ultimately lost the set. Shapovalov, seeded 27th in the tournament, had a bye in the first round and previously won against Argentina’s Thiago Tirante in the second round. Despite the loss, Shapovalov has a slight edge over Fritz in their career meetings, leading 6-5. The two players faced off earlier this year in Dallas, where Shapovalov emerged victorious.
