Shaila Forman signs with Lamar University after championship
Shaila Forman, a standout player from Southern Lab, has made headlines recently. She signed a national letter of intent to play basketball at Lamar University. Forman celebrated her decision shortly after helping her team win their third Division IV select title in four years. The signing came right after she was named MVP of the LHSCA’s East-West All-Star game. Forman, a 5-foot-10 guard/forward, averaged 22 points, five rebounds, and two assists this season. She returned to the court this year after missing last season due to a torn ACL. Forman's college choice was influenced by Lamar's coach, Aqua Franklin, who discussed her potential role on the team. Forman had other options, including Stephen F. Austin and Louisiana Tech, but felt a connection with Lamar and is optimistic about her future there. In other local basketball news, the Zachary Broncos have reached a significant milestone. After winning their first girls' basketball title in 98 years, they secured the No. 1 ranking in the final Sports Illustrated Louisiana poll. The team finished the season with a record of 26-4. Lafayette Christian and Wossman followed Zachary in the rankings. Notably, both Zachary and Wossman swept the boys and girls basketball titles this spring, a rare achievement in Louisiana high school history. On another sports note, Ascension Catholic baseball coach Gee Cassard celebrated his 100th win over the weekend, adding to the excitement in the local sports community.
