Several Indian states adjust school timings due to heat
A severe heatwave in March 2025 has led many states in India to change school timings. High temperatures exceeding 40 degrees Celsius were reported in Delhi, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. This situation poses a health risk, especially for children. In Uttar Pradesh, schools have adjusted their hours to start from 7:30 am and end at 12:30 pm. Maharashtra has mandated that schools operate between 7 am and 11:15 am. Similarly, Odisha and Andhra Pradesh are implementing changes to keep students safer during the heat. Parents are advised to take precautions during the heatwave. Children should drink plenty of water, stay indoors during peak hours, and wear light clothing. Using sunscreen and keeping homes cool can also help prevent heat-related illnesses.
