The fall crab fishing season has opened in the Sea of Japan, with the first auction held at Kasumi Port in Kami Town, Hyogo Prefecture. Approximately 19 tons of snow crab were landed on the first day, a 20% increase from last year. The highest price reached was 15,000 yen per crab. This crab, known as "Kasumi Crab," is popular as a hometown tax return gift. The fishing season continues until May 2026.
